Five ways to make your home more dog-friendly

Your dog deserves only the best.

However, sometimes, despite your best efforts, your little friend might have to suffer due to some human-friendly (but not pet-friendly) items present in your house.

These items could be troublesome for both your dog and yourself.

So, to help you out, here are five ways in which you can make your home more dog-friendly.

#1 Consider dog-friendly flooring

With dogs around, you need to get a flooring that can take so much activity. Hence, the harder the better. Tiling could be a great option, as tiles are almost scratch-proof.

Tiled floor could even be a great place for your dog to take a nap during hot days.

Carpeting should be avoided, as it can harbor a lot of bacteria and hair.

#2 Get rid of allergens and toxins

From their own bedding to smokes - a lot of things could be triggering your dog's allergies.

Some other common causes of allergy in dogs are dust mites, fellow pets, and even some indoor plants.

To reduce risk, keep your surroundings clean. Also, make sure to remove all potential causes of allergy (try using hit-and-trial method).

or talk to your vet, if need be.

#3 Buy pet-friendly furniture

If you have a pet at home, then you need to careful about your choice of furniture.

Strain-resistant fabric is the way to go.

Hence, make sure to avoid velvets, silk, and tweed - all these are vulnerable to stains and scratches.

Not just that, also avoid buying light colors, as stains are more likely to show up on them.

#4,5 Clean your house frequently; Say no to smoking

Cleaning: Unlike you, your pets live in close contact with the ground, and are thus increasingly exposed to dust, which they often end up licking/consuming. Hence, make sure to vacuum and dust your home frequently.

Smoking: Firstly, try and quit smoking. However, if you can't let go of it completely, just make sure to light it at a good distance from your pooch.
