Yamaha FZS-FI launched with rear disc brake

Commemorating 10 years of the FZ series, India Yamaha Motor (IYM) on Friday announced the launch of its FZS-FI with a rear disc brake. Providing an improved braking performance, the new model has been priced at Rs 86,042 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike with a 220mm rear disc brake costs around Rs 3,000 more than the standard variant and it also gets new sportier alloy wheels and rearview mirrors.
Moreover, the version is also available in a new 'Armada Blue' colour scheme that features revised graphics as well. There is no other update on the new Yamaha FZS-FI and it continues with the same 282mm front disc brake, beefy 41mm front forks, rear monoshock suspension and a meaty 140 section tyre which also adds value to the dominating design of the motorcycle.
Commenting on the launch, Roy Kurian, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, IYM, said that the legacy of Yamaha's FZ series in India is all about the inheritance of a unique motorcycling passion. "Immensely popular with Indian bikers all the way through almost 10 years from the day it was launched in India, and winning over a million hearts, it was crowned to become the 'lord of the streets' by the collective culture of the country's motorcycling.
While its best seller features like build and appearance, superior engine technology, fuel mileage and suspension are retained, the new additions will excite the present and new customers," he added. The updated Yamaha FZS-FI retains the same 149cc, air-cooled engine which is based on the company's Blue Core technology.
The technology claims to provide the engine with an increasing combustion efficiency, better cooling and reduced power loss, which are said to result in an optimum performance and enhanced fuel economy. The fuel injected motor comes mated to a five-speed gearbox and delivers 13.2PS of power and 12.8Nm of torque. The Yamaha FZ competes with the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer and the Honda CB Hornet 160R, which are already available with a rear disc brake option in the market.
